Collecting the fruits of our labor is one of a gardener’s biggest pleasures. Walking among pots, boxes, or rows and seeing what has grown under your care is really remarkable. I understand our very first year of gardening was (shockingly) rewarding. Our house was a brand-new develop on a previous field, and the plants went insane. I was giddy whenever I gathered from the garden. It resembles going outdoors and finding presents, and who doesn’t like presents?? But how to get all those goodies inside …
Collecting baskets are nothing brand-new. Every garden enthusiast requires something to collect his/her treasures in. It can be an apron flap, shirt front, basket, or simply plain bare hands. I’ve utilized all of these choices but have actually been wanting something easier. The basket I’ve utilized the previous few seasons was always covered with dirt on the bottom. And I didn’t really enjoy that resting on my kitchen counter (especially with a young child who puts his hands on WHATEVER).
Pinterest , oh the void that it is, provided me a concept for a two part basket. The one they advertised appeared a bit pricey, and I wasn’t happy to spend lavishly. Amazon had a simpler version for a bit less (you can see it here ), however it still wasn’t what I wanted. Fortunate for me, I simply occurred down the aisle at the Dollar Tree and found the best sized baskets for my project.

Why do I need 2 baskets? I’m so grateful that you asked. I just stroll my basket over to the garden hose and clean up off any dirt or soil clinging to the veggies as soon as I’m finished gathering that day’s fruit and vegetables.
When your veggies are drained pipes, you can take the whole inner basket inside. Utilize the water left in your bigger basket for watering plants as required.
And the added perk is that this is a job the kids will enjoy to do. I don’t know any little garden enthusiasts out there who do not enjoy any task involving a water hose. Am I? Once the veggies are secured of the basket in your house, I bring the basket back outside to await its next usage. This little Dollar Shop hack has been such a time and resource saver for us, and I hope it will be for you.
