There are so many natural alternatives available to you if you want to turn your garden organic. All you need to do is gain a little knowledge, and then put it to good use.
Learn how to properly lay sod. Before you use sod, you need to prepare the soil. Weed the soil well, and till the entire lawn area. Compress the soil lightly yet firmly, and make certain it’s flat. Thoroughly moisten the soil. Sod should be staggered in rows, the joints offsetting from each other. You want the sod to end up as a flat and even surface. If there are any gaps in between the sod pieces, then you can fill these in with some soil. Keep the sod moist and avoid walking on it until it is well-rooted, usually two to three weeks.
Many times when digging in clay soil the clay will adhere to the shovel, which will make it much harder to dig. To make the clay soft so you aren’t working as hard, take floor or car wax and rub a light coat on the surface of the shovel using a clean cloth, then buff the surface. The wax prevents the clay from sticking to the shovel, and stops rust from forming.
Plant vines like ivy to cover fences and dividing walls. Climbing plants are known to be very versatile, and can help hide any ugly wall or fence, and this often only takes one growing season. They can grow through shrubs and trees, or even cover an arbor. Some must be tied to supports, but some climbers use twining stems or tendrils and attach themselves to those surfaces. Some of these plants include, wisteria, jasmine, climbing roses, clematis, honeysuckle!
Coffee Grounds
If you discover that your soil is very alkaline, take used coffee grounds and mix them thoroughly with your soil. Coffee grounds contain plenty of acid to get the soil back to a good balance. After doing so, you will notice that your greenery and garden will be colorful and fresh.
Protect your delicate shrubs from harsh, wintry elements. If you have a few potted shrubs, they should be shielded from the wintry weather. Tie the tops of the canes together; then take a sheet and cover the wigwam loosely. You will protect your shrubs from the cold without having to cover them in plastic, which can cause rot.
Familiarize yourself with the optimum harvesting time of your vegetables. Each variety of vegetable has a specific time to be harvested so that you may enjoy its fullest flavor. As an example, zucchini and baby peas both have the best flavor when they are harvested at a young age. On the other hand, tomatoes taste best when they are as ripe as possible from the vine. It’s best to learn when the harvest time is for your vegetables.
Horticulture helps with relaxation. Many methods of relaxation can be employed to lead a peaceful life. One of the best ways to do this is horticulture. It doesn’t require a lot of cash up front, but pays major dividends. The best part of it is not the plants themselves, but the stillness achieved by tending to them.
