All it takes to grow an organic garden is a few natural growing methods. You only need to learn about them and implement them.
Select plant types that will bring a higher profits and yield. A lot of times a hybrid that will tolerate cold weather or disease will give you a higher output than heirlooms.
Pre-soak your seeds through the night in a dark area. Drop your seeds into a small jar that is filled with cold water. The seeds will get the hydration they need to start growing. This way, the seeds will have a much better shot at survival once they are planted.
Both cat grass and wheat grass are good for giving your errant feline pause. Offensive smells also work to repel cats and other pesky animals from eating your plants. Try putting mothballs, citrus peels, garlic and other pungent items on the topsoil.
Protect your tender deciduous shrubs. Cold weather is very hard on these tender shrubs, and potted shrubs should be shielded and protected. Tie together the tops, and then use a sheet or blanket to cover the wigwam loosely. This method works better than covering your bushes in plastic, allowing air to circulate and preventing rotting.
If you are looking for an all-natural, organic way to weed your garden, consider “boiling off” the weeds. Boiling water in a pot is a safe “herbicide.” All you need to do is apply boiling water right to the weeds you want to get rid of. Be careful not to get any on the plants you want to keep. Boiling water damages weed and plant roots, so be sure to avoid the plants you don’t want to eliminate.
Your garden can really benefit from evergreens featuring berries. The evergreens will add some color to your garden or yard, especially during the winter, when other plants have died or lost color. Some examples include Holly, Snowberry trees, Winterberry and similar plants.
Invest in a kneeling stool, and a wheelbarrow to work in the garden. It is important to protect your knees when you are kneeling in the garden, and a foam kneeling pad will help with that. Using a wheelbarrow or wagon to transport heavy loads of dirt will help protect you from back injuries so make sure that you have one.
Controlling pests can be quite challenging when trying to grow a healthy, hardy vegetable garden. It is wise to limit the use of harsh chemicals, because the vegetables will be eaten. So to help you control the pests that may invade your garden, you will want to stay vigilant. If you catch the pests early, the best removal technique is just to take them off your plants by hand.
The nutrients from vegetables can help. If you steam your vegetables, you can pour the remaining water around them. Try adding used coffee grounds to the soil around plants that grow in acidic soil. If fungus is an issue, Chamomile tea sprinkled on the plant may be effective.
